The Workshop Specification · Issue001

The material
is the argument.

The workshop publishes specs the way a printer publishes a colophon — because the garment should be readable before it is worn. Below is the whole of Issue 001, as it left the bench.

01 — Materials

Four materials. One standard.

Issue 001
Fleece

16 oz loopback cotton, garment-dyed. The brushed back holds the dye unevenly and that is the work — it is meant to deepen with wear.

Cotton

9 oz long-staple jersey. Tubular knit on a single feed, washed twice. The bone softens; the cuff acquires character, not obsolescence.

Twill

12 oz brushed twill. Tight weave, soft surface. The brass keeper darkens with skin — designed to age, not expire.

Leather

2.4 mm full-grain shoulder. Vegetable-tanned twelve weeks. Tobacco deepens to oxblood across a decade of carry.

Handcrafted in small batches. Quality is never compromised. Permanence is the first sustainability.

02 — Repair

Repair is not erasure.
It is a record.

House service — opens with Issue 002

When a Wood-Smith object comes back to the bench, it is not corrected back into newness. The seam is restitched, the edge re-burnished, the cuff re-bound — and the work is signed where the work was done. A repaired piece carries more history, not less. Returned to service, marked with honor.

i · Return

Hand the piece back to the workshop in any condition. A tear, a patina, a stain accepted by time is part of the work.

ii · Restitch

Hand-stitch, hand-burnish, hand-rebind. We repair, re-dye, re-edge. The work is done where the wear was.

iii · Re-issue

A small RE-ISSUED · W/S capsule is set beside the original mark. The object returns with more history.

A slow promise, not a logistics counter. We do not turn around in days.

03 — Care

Care without ceremony.

Cold wash, inside out. Air dry.

Black is dyed to deepen. Bone is dyed to soften. The dye is meant to move. We do not advise dry cleaning. If the leather is wet, let it dry in shadow.

House Doctrine · Custody

A workshop, not a warehouse.

We do not hold inventory across seasons. We do not maintain a sample sale. What leaves the bench is what was issued. What is brought back is repaired and returned — marked with honor.

  • i.Fewer things. Better things. Made to age, not expire.
  • ii.The object should improve with use, not disappear after it.
  • iii.Repair is not erasure. It is a record.
